Trees and tree rules
What's your thought about the simplification or confusion of this thing where we're having to figure out canopy cover? Because the tool— like, I tried to use the tool myself and I could not, and I'm kind of computer literate. I could not figure out how to use computer— the tool.John McCormickCouncil Member · Lafayette City Council · Nov 12, 2024Watch the full meeting from 1:30:46

If we're already requiring one for dead trees, it doesn't seem— it seems nice we're at least expanding Just include dying makes some sense because you're getting a letter from an arborist regardless.

See, I, I would say we don't allow it because they've come in, they're cutting down a protected tree, right? Um, we're again presumably for good reason, and we're saying, okay, now you need to plant, but if there's no room, right, we don't do anything.

They also tend to fare best when you have lots of them nearby each other because they kind of hold each other up. The question that I would have, given the shallow roots, is something like a root barrier even something that could be considered without damaging the health of the tree?
